My Leaf

My leaf is open
to the warming rays
the rain moves
down her vein to her tippy-tip
a rainbow kiss
my leaf so green
proud with vigor
spreading to the sun and the rain

My nutrients flow to her
absorbing earth's energy
I feed her my love
in summer's heat
her one pigment shows
I lift her up
saying to life,
"See, my Love, her lustrous green"

Soon her unabashed fall colours
will proudly glow
but first I must show her off
to the songbirds before they go

She gives me air
in the sunlight
a respire
in moonlight she rests
and when full, she lifts
a moon-tropism
only I can see

As days shorten
cool nights come
she warms her colours
patient no more
as green bids adieu
yellows, oranges, reds

They spread "greens" curtain
her vibrant colours drop green away
like drops of dew

My leaf
once lustrous green
in summer's breeze
bleeds anew
dancing free
holding on to fall's gentle breeze
her landing is faithful
always at my base

My seedling knew her
from long ago
she my first leaf
unfolded to me

She rests on the ground
thru winter's time
a blanket for me
when winter's cover melts
her cycle has made
her way thru

She is ready now

My leaf is open
to the warming rays
the rain moves
down her vein to her tippy-tip
a rainbow kiss
my leaf so green proud with vigor
spreading to the sun and the rain
